Behind the qualification
A diploma.
A family’s journey.
Isaac’s introduction to musical notes came from his mum, who made learning fun on a small Casio keyboard. Their first piano was a second-hand $200 upright, bought as a reward for both of them.
He kept learning through its sticky keys. Several years later, a teacher assessed him at approximately Grade 3 standard without prior formal piano tuition, and identified the excessive force those keys had encouraged. A used Yamaha U3 gave him an instrument that could respond properly as he moved into formal classical study.
At 16, Isaac was awarded Associate in Music, Australia (AMusA) — Piano by the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) in 2025. The official diploma records a milestone in a story that began with making music together at home.
